John Runnels: After spending years traveling around the world with his military family John developed an interest in the culinary arts. He decided to follow his interests once he settled in Hattiesburg by majoring in the hospitality industry. John had pursued his goals by not only managing multiple restaurants, but by owning his own gourmet deli. Covid hit and rather than settle into retirement, John decided to travel the country teaching and learning from chefs and colleagues to reconnect with his roots and interests.
Savino Sterlacci Bio: In 1988, Savino Sterlacci opened the very 1st World of Beer in Clearwater, FL, boosting the craft beer industry in the Tampa Bay area. Prior to embarking on this journey, which proved to be more than he ever anticipated, he brewed beer in 4 European countries (Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, and Czech), then brought his experience and love for great brewed beer back to the states. While operating World of Beer, and working with local brewers, he assisted with the first start up breweries in Florida. He also hosted a radio show for 10 years -“The World of Beer” show, discussing brewing techniques, the science of brewing beer, as well as showcasing locally crafted beer and imports. He was instrumental in helping change state laws to allow myriad bottle sizes, which helped fuel Florida’s craft beer explosion. Savino has delivered “Beer School”, a 2-hour informative session, discussing history, styles and development of craft beer around the country. He is currently semi-retired, traveling the country visiting craft breweries and assisting local establishments.
